Job Purpose

As the Payroll Team Leader your role is to lead the day to day running of the payroll function. This involves supervising a small team ensuring that all colleagues are paid on time, accurately and efficiently whilst ensuring that Lakeland fulfil its statutory obligations.  You will role model the Lakeland values and behaviours at all times you will ensure that excellent service and operational standards are achieved

About the role

  • To lead the day to day operation of the payroll function
  • To be responsible for the processing of all payroll 
  • To ensure that the pay rules in the time and attendance systems (Kronos & TEAM) accurately reflect company policy and are applied consistently
  • To liaise with HMRC ensuring that tax & national insurance is paid correctly and on time.
  • To keep up to date with tax/NI and other statutory obligations
  • To lead colleagues to ensure that day to day payroll processes are adhered to
  • To be responsible for collating and producing system data/reports in a meaningful format, communicating these as appropriate and taken any actions required
  • To have an expert knowledge of the systems and controls required to run a payroll function and ensure procedures are followed
  • To take the lead on ensuring that all Payroll and other systems are maintained accurately and kept u-to-date at all times and that all data is secure
  • To be able to review processes and procedures and make changes where necessary ensuring that the payroll function is efficient and productive   
  • To be able to engage all team members taking ownership of and resolving issues
  • To monitor and manage productivity by supporting team members, training and coaching
  • To provide a safe working environment for our colleagues by ensuring all Health & Safety and Fire policies are complied with, including DSE
  • To maintain the confidentiality of all people and other data and information and to comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act/GDPR

Knowledge, skills & experience

Essential – the ‘must haves’

  • Significant and current experience of working in a payroll environment
  • Experience of managing and leading a payroll team
  • Detailed knowledge of UK PAYE legislation, including maternity & sick pay, Tax and National Insurance.
  • Proficient in using MSword, Excel, Outlook and computer based payroll systems
  • The ability to allocate time effectively, handling multiple demands and competing priorities
  • A confidential approach to work and excellent numeracy skills
  • Experience of interviewing and recruiting colleagues

Desirable – the ‘nice to haves’

  • Relevant payroll qualification an advantage
  • Previous experience using IRIS EARNIE IQ an advantage
  • Knowledge of Lakeland product
