Job Purpose

As a Front End Web Developer, you will work closely with the Digital Design & Development Manager to perform digital development activity to improve the capability and ultimately drive the commercial performance of the website. This will include the interpretation of business requirements and the design of elegant solutions that meet Lakeland quality standards. Development and documentation of new and existing front end codebase. Bug fixing, maintenance and optimisation of Lakeland’s vast codebase.

You will coordinate with the internal design team in the production of new page templates, landing pages and website functionality. In addition, you will collaborate with the wider web team in the creation and planning of the development roadmap. You will embrace the Lakeland values and behaviours in every aspect of your role.
 

About The Role


Drives Business Success
•    To perform activities that deliver the operational performance of the website today and its functional development for tomorrow
•    To optimise the websites operational performance; identifying proactive opportunities to improve performance as well as addressing issues reactively
•    To create and maintain development knowledgebase for website users and future developers
•    To keep up to date with the latest techniques and web technologies and asses them for adoption on the Lakeland website
•    To upskill junior developers and web designers to ensure the quality of development is always at its best
•    To play a key role in the annual digital development roadmap

Operational Excellence
•    To perform front end development of the Lakeland website, utilising the following languages; HTML, JavaScript and CSS (some experience with JSP preferred)
•    To be familiar with version control (GIT) and be able to manage packages of code through to deployment
•    To be familiar with, and experience of working with front end development frameworks (Bootstrap preferred)
•    To create and maintain development knowledgebase for website users and future developers
•    To use Adobe Analytics to drive insight on performance and recommend actions to improve the commercial performance of the website
•    To work with QA’s during testing to ensure new features meet quality requirements before release. 
•    To review new and existing code created by junior members of the development team and 3rd parties to ensure Lakelands quality and security standards are met
•    To upskill junior members of the development and design team
•    To coordinate and collaborate with both internal and external development, design and testing resources

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential – the ‘must haves’
•    5+ year’s experience working in a development role
•    Experience of working on an ecommerce web platform
•    Experience of working with web content management systems (wordpress, joomla)
•    Advanced understanding and experience of producing front end code, including HTML, JavaScript, CSS and version control (Java is preferred but not required)
•    Advanced understanding of the Internet, the World Wide Web and how websites are constructed and managed.
•    An analytical mind-set with an approach based on data and logic 
•    A strong self-starter who is intellectually curious 
•    A high level of attention to detail
•    Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as this role is a pivot point between a large number of internal and external parties
•    Excellent numeracy, with GCSE Maths minimum grade 4/C or equivalent a minimum
•    Highly computer literate

 
Desirable – the ‘nice to haves’ 

•    Good understanding of SEO, both at a technical and content level
•    Good understanding of Adobe Analytics or similar analytics package
•    Good understanding of UX design
•    Numeracy based degree or further education
•    Excellent influencing and engaging skills
